Wan Switi Manspaasi Dey!
Today, July 1st marks the annual celebration of Keti Koti – ‘broken chains’ in Sranantongo (the Creole language in Suriname). The day commemorates the 1873 abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles. Keti Koti reminds us to not only commemorate but also celebrate the people who fought for abolition, and the rich flourishing cultures they preserved throgh their perseverance.
I take the occasion of the commemoration of Keti Koti 2026 to unveil the project logo for our FRICTIONS (Frictions of Space) project.
