It is one thing for me to study #slavery and #colonial #heritage #tourism (#tours) in other places, but it is quite another to be involved in designing and developing a similar tour in my own city. Exactly a week ago, I had the privilege of participating in the first Decolonial Walking Tour Wageningen that was delivered by our MSc students on the ‘Tourist Experiences’ course which is coordinated by my colleague Karolina Doughty. I’m glad that over the 3 intensive weeks of the course, I could support the learning of the students while sharing insights from my ongoing NWO (Dutch Research Council) Veni research project.

This was a nice mix of research knowledge utilisation, research impact and problem-based learning. The students did an excellent job in delivering this tour. I found myself being a fully implicated insider-outsider participant observer during the tour.
Check out the impression of the tour as published in Resource – WUR university magazine
