It is my absolute great delight to share with you news of my upcoming research publication in the Annals of Tourism Research journal. After more than a year of the review process, the first substantive paper from my NWO Veni research project is about to be published.

I had this extended video abstract made to provide a visual explainer of the content of the publication. In this video/paper, I introduce and develop the concept of the embodied absence of the past – to highlight tourism’s transformative memory work in relation to slavery and colonial heritage. This concept is the building block and cornerstone of my NWO Veni research project and for my research programme on the geographies of slavery heritage tourism that I seek to develop over the coming years.

The publication will be ‘Open Access’ so anyone can download it for free once it is published online. The paper is titled – “THE EMBODIED ABSENCE OF THE PAST: slavery heritage and the transformative memory work of tourism” – and it’s coming your way soon
